Devotions #1: Do Not Worry

When you’re experiencing doubt or worry, whether it’s about a difficult family situation, a health problem, or other obstacle, consider turning to the Bible to find comfort and peace through Scripture that promises you hope and a future. It’s never easy to be completely sure about unknown outcomes in life, and everyone needs a little reassurance that things will work out in the end. The Bible can provide some helpful guidance to calm you down during scary times. Learn how to live free from worry and anxiety by meditating on the Word and casting your cares upon Jesus.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”-Philippians 4:6

Worry is ‘anxiety over the future that dominates the present.’

“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”-Matthew 6:27

Can you add an hour to your life by your worry? No, but your worry may actually shorten your life by causing so much stress that your health breaks down.

Jesus gave us this practical admonition-

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” -Matthew 6:34

You’ve got plenty of trouble right now. Why borrow trouble from tomorrow? Worry focuses on the problem not the solution. Worry causes us to assume responsibility that belongs only to God. Worry paralyzes us with fear. It saps our joy and drains our energy. Stop staring and worrying. Pull those shoulders back. Put a smile on your face. Take your troubles, wrap them up and give them all to the Lord.

There’s nothing to worry about. Nothing to make you feel afraid. Nothing to make you doubt. Remember, we have a great future because we have a great God. Jesus never fails. We’ll have our share of hard times but overriding it all is the promise of God who said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
